The 2022 midterm elections are now behind us. Experts say that one of the races “crystallized one of the main lessons.” The lesson? People who trust elections are more likely to vote.

David Becker, executive director of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and Research, raised the point while discussing Republican Kari Lake’s narrow loss to Democrat Katie Hobbs in AZ’s governor race.

“If you tell people that voting is hard, or voter fraud is rampant, or elections are rigged, it doesn’t make people more likely to participate,” Beck said. “Why would you want to play a game you thought was rigged?”
