Here’s the Scoop
Democrat Rep. Barbara Lee, running for late Sen. Diane Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat, has proposed a ludicrous solution to inflation and high prices: a $50 minimum wage. This outrageous suggestion is seven times the current national minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
Lee defends her economically unsustainable proposal by citing her experience running a small business, creating “hundreds of jobs, benefits, retirement benefits, [and] also health care benefits.”
She claims that a $50 minimum wage is necessary for Californians to afford the cost of living in the state.
Critics, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), have mocked Lee’s proposal, asking, “Why not $500 per hour?”
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk also ridiculed the idea, saying, “Why not just make the minimum wage a billion dollars an hour? Then we’d all be richer than Elon Musk!”
Kirk further slammed Lee’s economic illiteracy, stating that “every country that adopts it becomes a dystopian nightmare.”
Others have questioned how small business owners could possibly afford to pay their workers such a high wage.
Lee’s absurd call for a $50 minimum wage comes as inflation surges with no immediate signs of relief. It’s clear that Democrats like Lee are out of touch with reality and have no understanding of basic economics. The American people deserve better than this kind of reckless policymaking.
