However, technology firm Robotiz3d is set to change the game with its Autonomous Road Repair System (ARRS). Using a trifecta of cutting-edge technologies, ARRS could herald the end of the pothole plague.
The first of these, the ARRS Eye, is a scanning device installed on various vehicles. As these vehicles traverse the cityscape, they’re constantly scanning the road surface for signs of distress. Using advanced imaging, it identifies and assesses the severity of surface issues, prioritizing repair tasks.
But it doesn’t stop there. ARRS Prevent, an AI-powered robo-vehicle, patrols the roads day and night, sealing small cracks before they can become potholes. It’s an innovative solution, combining AI and robotics to nip the problem in the bud and prevent costly, labor-intensive repairs down the line.
Looking ahead, Robotiz3d is already working on ARRS Ultra, a machine designed for more extensive repairs. This could revolutionize road maintenance, offering cost-effective, efficient solutions to an age-old problem.
Funded by the likes of Innovate UK, Horizon Europe, CERN, and the Department For Transport in the UK, ARRS is a shining example of what can be achieved through technological innovation. It’s a local solution with global potential, promising to make potholes a thing of the past.
