Here’s the Scoop
Are we witnessing targeted aggression against Caitlin Clark in the WNBA? The debate is heating up after Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter shoulder-checked Clark so hard that it was ruled a “flagrant foul” and went viral.
Indiana Fever GM Lin Dunn didn’t mince words, insisting, “There’s a difference between tough defense and unnecessary—targeting actions! It needs to stop!”
Yet, in a stunning twist, The View’s Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg are singing a different tune.
Goldberg downplayed the incident, stating, “This happens in basketball all the time… just because they’re women, get over yourselves, they’re athletes.” But isn’t there a line between competition and assault?
Hostin, who has previously lamented that Clark’s attention stems from her being “white” and “pretty,” defended the rough play, claiming, “It’s not dainty play… It’s gonna make them better.”
But does targeting really equate to betterment, or is it just a thinly veiled excuse for unacceptable behavior?
Goldberg and Hostin want us to “be realistic,” but maybe it’s time to “clean up” the league, as Dunn suggests. Is this the kind of sportsmanship we should be celebrating? You decide.
