Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and director David Mamet, known for his plays American Buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Speed-the-Plow, has turned his attention to the culture war in Hollywood.

In a recent interview, he discussed the death of storytelling, antisemitism in America, and his admiration for Donald Trump.

Mamet lamented the decline of theater, pointing out that political commissars now dictate diversity requirements rather than focusing on the quality of the story.

He also criticized the transformation of Broadway into a “Disneyland” for out-of-town visitors, where thought-provoking plays are replaced by shallow entertainment.

The Hollywood veteran didn’t mince words when discussing the national press, comparing them to Pravda and accusing them of only approving plays that align with their political views. He also touched on the bifurcation of Western culture, with conservatives embracing the Judeo-Christian ethic and the Left focusing on identity politics.

Mamet expressed his support for Donald Trump, calling him “the best president since Abraham Lincoln.”

He credited Trump with bringing peace to the Middle East, closing the border, and achieving high approval ratings among African Americans. In contrast, he referred to Joe Biden as a “senile old bag-man.”

The acclaimed writer also defended free speech, questioning who gets to decide what constitutes hate speech and arguing that all crimes are hate crimes.

Despite the challenges he’s faced in Hollywood, Mamet remains committed to his craft, valuing his conscience and soul over fame and power.
