Ex-CNN reporter Chris Cillizza faced backlash and a Community Note for claiming that President Joe Biden never suggested workers in one profession could simply change jobs by learning to code.

The conversation began with news of recent layoffs at media outlets, including The Los Angeles Times, and a response by DeSantis’ Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern.

Cillizza expressed his disapproval of people celebrating job losses, but was quickly reminded that journalists did the same with coal miners.

Cillizza denied that Biden ever made such a statement, but a Community Note soon followed, linking to a 2019 article by The Hill.

The article revealed that then-candidate Joe Biden, during a campaign rally in Derry, NH, stated, “Anybody who can go down 3,000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well,” as part of a policy proposal to move away from fossil fuels.

GOP Rapid Response director Jake Schneider even shared a video of Biden making the statement, saying, “Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program for God’s sake!”

This incident highlights the hypocrisy of the left and their selective outrage when it comes to job losses. While they claim to champion the working class, their actions and statements often reveal a different story.

The question remains: does Biden truly care about coal miners, or is he simply pandering to his base with empty promises?
